Adapted from the popular novel by award-winning author Louis De Bernières, Red Dog is the true story of a charismatic kelpie who united a mining community in North West Australia in the 1970s and '80s while roaming the outback in search of his master.

Arriving in town after hitching a ride with pub owner Jack, Red Dog brings the community together during a time when the remote small town is growing into a major mining center. Red Dog endears himself to everyone who crosses his path, including Peeto- a large, brash man with a surprisingly gentle heart; Jocko- a miner with a dark past; and Vanno, an Italian who finds true love thanks to the matchmaking canine. However, Red Dog only decides to settle down when he meets John, a wanderer who takes a job in town driving the Hamersley Iron company bus. Even when John's attention is diverted towards the new girl in town Nancy, Red Dog stays loyal to his chosen master.
